Leaders are thermostats, not thermometers. They set the temperature, not reflect it. They rise above the mood or attitude level in a place (or in themselves) and set a new standard.
They understand that going to higher levels requires swimming upstream against the flow of fear, self-doubt, past failures, people's opinions, and many inner lies.
They go beyond merely reflecting the status quo and believe they can bring positive change, regardless of how they feel. This attribute is an important aspect of what ultimately makes them a leader.
Leaders set the tone by holding themselves accountable for exhibiting high-road behavior in all their actions and words, believing they are:
… leaders of hope.
… leaders of humility.
… leaders of integrity.
… leaders of unforced rhythms of grace.
… leaders of potential and possibilities.
… leaders of value who multiply value to others.
As leaders in every aspect of our lives, we are called to make a positive difference for others. Let this message inspire us to embrace the idea that we are thermostats, not thermometers. We have the power to set the tone, and the ripple effect of our attitude matters!
Intentionally Own It! What growth does this message inspire me to embrace, and what makes it matter? When I embrace it, who am I becoming, and what value does this add to my life and to others?
