“Scatter Kindness.”

I hung this inspiring inscription above the kitchen door leading to the garage, so I’m sure to see it every time I leave my home.

We live in a world filled with turmoil, sadness, and despair. Of course, there are pockets of happiness too. On many days, though, it feels like the sadness overshadows the joy. It doesn’t take much looking around to find a soul in need of a little encouragement or a healthy dose of hope.

I was once told that there are two types of people in the world: Those who enter a room full of people and announce, “Here I am!” and those who walk into a room, seek out another soul, and lovingly declare, “Oh … there you are!”

It makes me wonder: Someday, will I be remembered as someone who sought to encourage others, or as someone who sought only to make herself known? Which one will be said of you? Will you be thought of as someone who is on the lookout for those you can be a necessary blessing to, or were we more concerned about our own safety and comfort?

While we may sometimes think our lives are boring, could we see our humble, common circumstances as an opportunity for purpose? Could we seek to scatter kindness?

Too often, we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn life around. Kindness is not an act; it’s a lifestyle, a reflection of your soul.

Years from now, how will you be remembered? As a “Here I am!” person or as an “Oh … there you are!” sort of soul? The choice is yours!

Intentionally Own It! What growth does this message inspire me to embrace, and why does it matter? When I embrace it, who am I becoming, and what value does this add to my life and to others?
